As a member of one of the oldest ISA sections in the world (chartered in 1946), we hope you will take full advantage of the member benefits highlighted in this website.
The area around Richland centers around the Hanford Reach, a free-flowing section of the Columbia River—”Chiawana” (Big River)—(around 51 miles long), in eastern Washington. Upstream is Priest Rapids Dam and downstream is the McNary Dam. As early as 10,000 years ago, the ancestral inhabitants of today’s Wanapum People, Yakama Nation, Confederated Tribes of the Colville, Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Reservation, and the Nez Perce fished, hunted, and collected a variety of natural resources in the area.

In 1943, the Manhattan Project, designed to build the atomic bombs of WWII, came to Richland & built the B Reactor, the first full-scale reactor in the world, producing weapons-grade plutonium, in just 13 months. Plutonium from the B Reactor was used in the world’s first nuclear explosion, July 16, 1945, at the Alamogordo Bombing and Gunnery Range in New Mexico. B Reactor plutonium was used in the “Fat Man” bomb dropped on Nagasaki, Japan, on August 9, 1945.

Come to this mid-July lunch and learn to find out what the ISA Richland Section has planned for the coming year and meet the latest Richland Section Board Member, Ryan Beesley, CAP, Regional Engineering Manager for Concept Systems. Ryan will introduce himself to all y’all and give a virtual tour of the only underground coal mine (Signal Peak Energy in Roundup, MT) in the state of Montana where he worked as a second generation coal miner. He’ll answer the question: “Are coal mines still a viable energy source?”

We are an open society inviting all whom are involved in the automation industry, in any capacity, to be part. If you are connected to the automation field as a technician, engineer, educator, etc. you are welcome to attend any of the events and functions including the networking sessions. Should you decide to become an ISA member, the full benefit package will be available to you.

Annual Ice-Breaker BBQ

The ISA Richland Section is dedicated to inspiring and engaging the community to achieve full accomplishment of corporate and personal goals as we work in this automation industry. With many annual events, you will have plenty of great opportunities to meet others of like-minded professional interests.

Technical Content Topics

Since there are only two sections in the State of Washington; Seattle on the west side of the Cascade Mountains and Richland on the east side. Our nearest ISA section to our east is the Montana section in Billings, Montana.

 Technical Content

In 2021, the Richland section will begin to partner with our neighboring section to the east, Southwest Idaho, for our monthly meetings

We have several other programs for our members that are available throughout the year such as local co-sponsored ISA training for the new ISA/IEC S99/IEC 62443 CyberSecurity Certification, the Control Systems Engineer PE Review Course, CAP in a year classes, a new Engineering-In-Training EIT / Fundamentals of Engineering FE Review Course, and the Annual Leadership Conference 22-25 October 2021 La Concha Resort & Hotel San Juan, Puerto Rico, USA

Students: Join the Fundamentals of Engineering / Engineering-In-Training (FE/EIT) Exam Review Study Group

As a non-profit organization, the support of volunteers is critical to the success of the ISA Richland Section. We are extremely fortunate to have an incredible team of volunteers and volunteer leaders, but we are always looking for more people to help. Think about signing up and volunteering for an upcoming event - it's a great way to meet fellow automation professionals and a nice way to give back to the automation community.

Join in the discussion in the new ISA Connect Forum

In 2025, ISA transitioned from the seventeen (17) technical divisions to thirty-two (32) new technical Connect Forums .

I look forward to meeting you and hope that you will let us know if there is anything we can do to enhance your member experience in the ISA Richland Section.

You can join any (or all) Division(s) at no additional charge. Please click here to add a Division to your membership.
