Gerald Wilbanks, P.E. Vice President of Documentation and Engineering Services (DES) in Birmingham, Alabama has over 50 years of experience in engineering, management, consulting, and design in heavy industry.  His experience background includes 15 years as principal of his own firm, DES; 32 years as vice president and lead control systems engineer with Rust Engineering Company, and 4 years as an instrument engineer with Union Carbide Chemicals.

He is a registered professional engineer in Alabama and Mississippi, a member of the National Society of Professional Engineers (NSPE), a member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE), and a Former President (1995) of the International Society of Automation (ISA).

Gerald is a graduate of Mississippi State University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, was selected as the Engineer of the Year in 1991 by the Engineering Council of Birmingham and was accorded recognition for Outstanding Society Service in 1997. He is a Distinguished Engineering Fellow of Mississippi State University and is a Life Fellow member of ISA.  Gerald was presented a Life Achievement Award by ISA in 2010 and has served on numerous committees and task forces for the society.

Gerald has been active in the Professional Development Department (PDD) of ISA, and developed the three day training class as a Review Course for the Control Systems Professional Engineer Exam.  This activity is provided by ISA as a three day course and as an online instructor assisted class.  This includes the Control Systems PE Exam Study Guide and other preparation materials for those taking the exam.

He served on the Alabama Board of Licensure for Professional Engineer and Land Surveyors from 2009 to 2014, is an Emeritus Member of the National Council of Examiners for Engineers and Surveyors (NCEES) and has served as an instructor in many courses, seminars, and other educational sessions for ISA and in his own business.
