Subject: 2024 ISA Strategic Objectives - Section Leadership Action Needed
@John Whitten,
These are the desired and measurable Key Results for the 2024 Strategic Plan under the Innovation Insights Strategic Objective. The plan is developed and managed by the Executive Board. The goal is to get Sections and Divisions on board in fostering emerging technologies, processes, and business practices through technical meetings, discussions, etc.

In our May meeting this week we reviewed these together.
I could not answer but how was this list of content identified?

Subject: 2024 ISA Strategic Objectives - Section Leadership Action Needed
Section Leaders,
Please note that ISA has released strategic objectives that require our section and divisions to take action. As we are all aware, technology and innovation is occurring at a rapid pace. In an effort for organizations like ISA to stay on top of and spread best practices for these objectives, we need subject matter experts to drive the discussion and share that knowledge to allow all of us to be more proficient and knowledgeable on the topic as well. There are two main topics that we want to guide our sections in focusing guidance and knowledge sharing on (details for each topic can be found below):
- Develop and/or disseminate guidance on industrial AI, OT cloud, and cybersecurity resiliency through the ISA structure to increase ISA's leadership in these emerging technologies.
- Elevate ISA's voice on how automation and ISA products help stakeholders with key business issues such as resilient supply chain, energy transition, digital deglobalization, and ethical sourcing.
If you need assistance in finding speakers or topics, please let me know. You can find the ISA expert directory here: https://connect.isa.org/resources/expertdirectory, where topics can be searched to find a speaker around the world to request a webinar on the particular subject.
When hosting a meeting or presentation on these topics, please log the title, speaker, number of attendees, and brief description. ISA would like to track these topics so content around the subject can be refined and disseminated to all that are interested. A tracking form should be completed and can be found here: https://webportalapp.com/sp/login_saml/innovation-insights-key-results.
Further details on the topics defined above can be found below. Let's work together to help continue making ISA's automation expertise the go-to place for content for our members.
Topic Category 1
Develop and/or disseminate guidance on industrial AI, OT cloud, and cybersecurity resiliency through the ISA structure to increase ISA's leadership in these emerging technologies.
Industrial AI
Application of artificial intelligence in manufacturing/production automation systems - could include machine learning, advanced process control, predictive/preventative control.
OT Cloud
Implementation of cloud computing in manufacturing/production automation system and operational technology environments, both on-premises or off-premises applications.
Cybersecurity Resilience
Cybersecurity resilience refers to an entity's ability to continuously deliver the intended outcome (in OT environments, that means keeping the automation systems running safely and producing products), despite cyber-attacks.
Topic Category 2
Elevate ISA's voice on how automation and ISA products help stakeholders with key business issues such as resilient supply chain, energy transition, digital deglobalization, and ethical sourcing.
Supply Chain Resilience
The role automation plays in supply chain resilience - "the capacity of a supply chain to persist, adapt, or transform in the face of change."
Energy Transition
The role automation plays in the global energy sector's shift from fossil-based systems of energy production and consumption - including oil, natural gas and coal - to renewable energy sources like wind and solar. Additionally, the role automation plays in efficient production, storage, and uses of energy - such as distributed generation and storage technology.
Digital Deglobalization
The role automation plays in digital deglobablization -- including supporting local economies, aligning with ESG (environmental, social, governance) and CSR (corporate social responsibility) goals, enhancing agility, fostering closer vendor collaboration, improving forecasting, increasing access to education, and accessing rapid capacity expansion.
Ethical Sourcing
The role automation plays in ethical sourcing - products and services from each point of a business's supply chain are obtained in an ethical way, which includes upholding rights, decent working conditions, health and safety, and good business ethics – such as automating menial and hazardous tasks and tracking ownership and provenance.
