ISA officially was born as the Instrument Society of America on 28 April 1945, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA. It was the brainchild of Richard Rimbach of the Instruments Publishing Company and grew out of the desire of 18 local instrument societies to form a national organization. Rimbach is recognized as the founder of ISA.

    Overview:
    Manufacturers are working hard to stay competitive. Smart Manufacturing provides
    ideas on how to do that. IIoT is one of them…but what really is Smart Manufacturing?
    How does it all really help the manufacturer? We’ll answer those questions and showa
    couple of examples of IIoT solutions pulling data from machines.

  • A Valued Member 's Passing

    Pat Patchen of GILSON Engineering has recently passed. Pat was an ISA member for over 40 years including being a Senior and Lifetime member. He served as the Golf Chairman for many years which enabled our Section to play at Shannopin Country Club many times in the past.

    He worked for Gilson Engineering for 36 years and was the Executive Vice-President. He was well respected not only by those he worked with and customers, but with follow competitor representative organizations.

    Pat Graduated with Honors from the University of Florida with a BSEE Degree and was a 3-year letterman on the football team. His senior 1960 honors included team MVP, State MVP selected by the state sportswriters, First Team All SEC, Academic All-America, Honorable Mention All-America, all the while maintaining a 3.9 GPA.

    Pat follows his wife’s passing who he was married to for 57 years.

    The ISA Pittsburgh Section expresses our deepest condolences to the Patchen and Gilson families, and thanks you for the many years of support to the ISA Pittsburgh Section.
