В Российской Федерации реальное сотрудничество с ISA началось в 1994 году. Первое организационное собрание Российской секции ISA было проведено 21 июня 1994 года в Санкт-Петербурге. 14 февраля 1995 года на заседании Исполкома ISA было принято решение о признании Российской секции ISA. Официальные документы, подтверждающие правовой статус секции, были вручены делегации секции в Милане (Италия) в феврале 1995 года. Студенческая секция ISA в ГУАП начала свою работу в октябре 1995 года.
