  • Control System Cybersecurity for Water/Energy Utilities

    Date: Tuesday, 22 September 2020 • 1:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m. EST

Presented by Jonathon H. Grant, PE, CISSP, Automation EngineerCDM Smith

This presentation will build upon the various levels of ISA content provided in the area of cybersecurity, to identify the continued importance and need for cybersecurity as it relates to control systems.  The roles played by IT/OT in cybersecurity, as well as the common practices that can be applied to mitigate control system risk will be covered.

We will discuss the impact of Stuxnet and subsequent activities on the cybersecurity on the control systems for two critical infrastructure sectors, energy and water/wastewater treatment. We will identify what makes up control system cybersecurity, including the risk factors that differentiate it from the security necessary in other areas. We will also cover why it is more important than ever to focus on measures to counter the interest, attention and effort that threat actors are devoting to these systems. Lastly, we will identify how owners of critical infrastructure control systems can reduce these risks and better protect these important systems.
