Speaker –
Mr. Kirk Buecher, Mettler Toledo, Director of Global Power Solutions for Mettler Toledo -Thornton
Kirk has over 30 years’ experience in analytics and precision measurement technologies. Over the past 12 years, his focus has been on water chemistry analytics used in all types of power and steam generation, including Nuclear, Biofuel and Cogen plants.
He actively supports this industry by working on:
- ASTM D.19 Water Committee
- ASME Steam Properties and Industrial Boiler Subcommittees
- Power Cycle Chemistry Committee of the International Association for the Properties of Water and Steam (IAPWS)
- And consults with project teams of EPRI, VGB, Thermal Power Research Institute of China, S. Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute, and National Thermal Power Corp. of India
- He regularly presents papers/presentations at the leading Power & Cogen Industry Events.
Abstract –
This presentation will provide a high-level review of the instrumentation and water analytics advancements that are available today for power, cogeneration, and steam generation applications. Advancements in these measurement tools coupled to automation and control logic, can provide solutions to commonly experienced and very dangerous problems that can lead to plant shutdowns and expensive repairs. These foundational improvements can provide unmatched trust and verification of water chemistry measurements and alarms. Building up from this foundation, will allow for even greater levels of plant and process control automation, remote monitoring, with minimal staffing requirements.
