Abstract:
Maintaining right quantity and right quality of feedstock, intermediate products and final products has always been the focus area of any plant and its operations, as they are instrumental in making the process efficient which ultimately ensures revenues and keeps biz profitable.
On this path, as we know smart field sensors & instruments plays a key role, which of course needs to have the right certifications & specifications for usage in Custody & Non-Custody / process applications.
Unlike the yester years’, best practice technologies of today, apart from superior specifications, also have inbuilt Predictive maintenance facility which indicates much ahead on the health & integrity status of the meters. This helps the operations team to do proper pre planning on maintenance and recalibration thereby getting 24 x 7 availability of the meters.
On the quantity side in terminals / storage & pipelines, Volume in majority is the transfer parameter. Hence all users seek for best Volume performance from the flowmeters. Multivariable Coriolis meter complies to this need. Apart from precise Mass, its Volume accuracy is even better than the direct Volume flow meters.
With no moving parts & no spares to stock, it offers best performance year to year, min recalibration frequency, proving not mandatory and with min Opex.
Micro Motion differentiates providing solutions for application challenges like handling dual phase occurrence in loading & unloading. Added to this are mitigating velocity errors in Coriolis in pipe sizes > 4” for high viscous fluids & enhancing accuracy in Coriolis with PWL (Piece wise Linearization) in 3rd party Gas Lab.
Coriolis is upto 12” meter size which can take up flow throughputs of 16 – 18” pipes in Gases. To meet bigger flowrates / Pipe sizes, comes the Gas Ultrasonic flowmeters which has meters upto 42” & above. Its 8-path meter brings the Wet calibration accuracy to 0.2% in 3rd party Gas Lab plus reduces the need of straight length to 5D.
On the quality side, online density meters for Liquids / Gases & viscosity meters for liquids finds multiple applications in Midstream domain. Hydrometers & offline Lab sample-based analysis can hardly match with the precision they offer. Additional advantage is qualifying on digitalization need, bringing in higher operational efficiency through remote monitoring & automatic control. Density meters complying to both Custody and Non-Custody applications are available.
Some of the applications where online density & viscosity meters bring differentiations are Loading / Unloading of products, Product Interface detection / Tank dewatering, direct Viscosity control in heating loop of high viscous product storages & Online high precision direct density measurement in product tanks.
