About the speakers
Robert E. Sherman
Bob has been a member of ISA for most of his professional career is:
- Senior Member 1986
- ISA Fellow 2002
- ISA Life Fellow 2016
Bob has served on ISA Standards Committees including ISA5-Documentation of Measurement & Control Instruments & Systems, ISA5.1 - Instrumentation Symbols and Identification, and ISA76 - Composition Analyzers where he had a lead role in the development of many ANSI/ISA SP76 components.
Bob has been the Process Analyzer System SME for AMOCO (now BP) - 12 years, BP-Husky - 3 years, Valero Energy - 3 years, and Site SME for CVR Energy (Wynnewood) - 2 years. He served in Senior Technical and middle management roles for several large Engineering Contractors, both in both America and Asia.
Bob has authored two major industry volumes on Process Analyzer Systems:
"Analytical Instrumentation" - part of the ISA "Practical Guide for Measurement and Control" series and "Process Analyzer Sample-Conditioning System Technology" - part of the Wiley Series in Chemical Engineering.
Bob currently solves challenging Process Analyzer Applications utilizing leading-edge Process Analyzers.
Gary Rathwell
Gary has been a member of ISA since 1976 and has served on standards bodies including ISA95 - Enterprise Integration, ISA108 - Intelligent Device Management and ISA99 - Cybersecurity.
He spent 6 years in oil refinery operations and optimization, 10 years in petrochemicals process control and optimization, 10 years as the Functional Leader of Control Systems and Systems Integration for a large engineering contractor, and 20 years as President of ECI Ltd, providing Enterprise Master Planning and Project Management for mega projects around the world.
Gary has also authored dozens of publications and presentations on the above topics including "A Handbook on Master Planning and Implementation", "The PERA Master Planning Guide" and the PERA Enterprise Integration Website.

The Los Angeles chapter of ISA is starting an Awards Program for projects completed by ISA Los Angeles members. The three categories are:
1. Manufacturing/batch processing/food processing/chemical plant
2. Power plant/geothermal/renewable energy/solar/wind/alternate energy
3. Hydrocarbon processing/production/terminals/pipelines/natural gas storage and pipelines
This will be discussed at the meetings on December 8th. A copy of the submission form for the awards is located at
