October Meeting Plans
The next meeting of the ISA Birmingham Section will be on Tuesday, October 8, 2024, at 5:30 PM in the offices of Revere Control Systems, 5201 Princeton Way, Hoover, AL. This will be a technical meeting with Professional Development Hour (PDH) offered for those needing credit for professional or company record. The session will begin at 5:00 PM with networking and social activity, along with the business meeting announcements. Speaker: Stefanie Funk – Director of Automation BBP Topic: “ An Unconventional Approach to a Common Automation Challenge”
Stefanie Funk specializes in the field of industrial automation and digital transformation, serving as the Director of Automation at BBP. With over 10 years of experience, Stefanie has a proven track record of leveraging cutting-edge technologies to streamline operations and drive business growth. Stefanie holds an MBA from UAB, and a Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering and Mathematics from the University of Alabama. In addition to her professional accomplishments, Stefanie is passionate about developing the next generation of Control Engineers and is a member of the Advisory Board for the University of Alabama Chemical Engineering Department.
The BBP project team worked with their customer to tackle the common automation challenge of upgrading obsolete systems that many people are facing today--however, the team took an unconventional approach due to time restraints and for risk management. BBP started with the ultimate end goal of migrating the existing remote I/O to traditional I/O and devised an approach that accommodated the customer’s needs and allowed them to perform a phased migration, which minimized the overall project risk for the plant. With this phased migration strategy and extensive pre-planning efforts, the project was completed ahead of schedule with minimal setbacks during the implementation phase.
