We present a case study based discussion for Oct'21 Connect Live.
Discussion Topic: Soft sensing-based measurement techniques for condition monitoring of Distribution Transformers.
Discussion Facilitator: Mr. Simit Pradhan from Siemens Technology group.
Connect Live Moderator: Mr. Michael Nager, Program Chair SMIIOT Division
Discussion Synopsis
Problem Statement: Owing to their harsh operating conditions, oil-filled transformers tend to degrade over time and leak oil, which results in failure or reduced life of the asset apart from the operational hazard at site. The main indicators of transformer health are oil level and top oil temperature. Further, being highly optimized for cost, these transformers have very minimal instrumentation.
Possible Solution Approach: In this Connect Live discussion the facilitator will set the context to discuss and elaborate on a possible solutions to overcome the oil leakage hazard in distribution transformer. One of the solution aspect revolve around, virtual sensing or soft sensing model of the oil-level in the transformer which provides a real-time oil-level monitoring for new and existing transformers. Further coupling this virtual sensing with IIoT framework, the measurement output is made available in the form of a dashboard aggregating multiple such assets on the field.
As part of our discussion, we will ponder around the following key topics and will encourage participants to gear up for a value added discussion,
- Non-invasive oil-level sensing in distribution transformers
- Brownfield digitalization
- Soft-sensing for cost-effective asset condition monitoring
- Analogous modelling
- Physics-based ML modelling
Discussion Format
25 mins - the facilitator will set the context for discussion
35 mins - the moderator open the floor for discussion and interaction
Look forward to e-meet you at the Connect Live session.
